Resumen
La educación de las personas adultas mayores en Costa Rica está reglamentada en la Ley Integral para la Persona Adulta Mayor, Ley 7935. En este trabajo se pretende dar una visión panorámica de las oportunidades en cuanto a educación que tienen las personas adultas mayores en las universidades estatales o públicas y otras instituciones. Hay una oferta variada, algunas gratuitas las cuales tienen pocos cupos y otras que tienen un costo accesible para muchas personas, pero no para todas, hay pocas opciones exclusivas para ellas, pero hay apertura para que puedan ingresar. Si se toma en cuenta que la mayoría de la población mayor costarricense tiene baja escolaridad (primaria incompleta) las oportunidades son insuficientes para la demanda. Por otra parte, la mayoría de la oferta está en zonas urbanas y en la Gran Área Metropolitana (GAM) que incluye las conurbaciones de San José, Alajuela, Cartago y Heredia, y cuenta con aproximadamente 2,6 millones de habitantes (aproximadamente 60% de la población del país), por lo que, a pesar de que existe una ley que contempla los derechos a la educación de la población mayor, hay mucho por hacer para que haya un verdadero ejercicio de estos en la población mayor.
The education of the elderly in Costa Rica is regulated in the Comprehensive Law for the Elderly, Law 7935. This paper aims to give a panoramic view of the opportunities in terms of education that older adults have in universities. state or public and other institutions.
