Darjeeling, de Bharti Kirchner: traducción e informe de investigación

Abstract

El presente trabajo de graduación, compuesto por una traducción y su correspondiente informe de investigación, es requisito básico para optar por el grado de Magíster en Traducción (Inglés-Español) de la Universidad Nacional. Estas páginas comprenden varias secciones: la primera es la traducción al español de ocho capítulos de la novela Darjeeling1, de la escritora indoamericana Bharti Kirchner. El informe de investigación, basado en la traducción del libro, consta de cinco secciones. La primera es la introducción y justificación, tanto a la escogencia del texto, como al tema investigado. El primer capítulo comprende las consideraciones teóricas más importantes que sustentan el desarrollo de los temas que se analizan en los capítulos subsiguientes. Los dos capítulos de desarrollo del tema analizan la presencia de extranjerismos y referencias culturales dentro del texto, tanto como causantes de choque cultural (Capítulo II) como generadores de significados (Capítulo III). Finalmente, se incluye una sección de Conclusiones generales a las que llevó la investigación de los temas. Aunque este tomo no pretende ser una respuesta única a un problema de la traducción literaria, sí se espera que se convierta en material de reflexión y apoyo para los diferentes traductores que deseen adentrarse en el fascinante campo de los textos literarios y culturales.

This graduation work, consisting of a translation and its corresponding research report, is a basic requirement to obtain a Master's degree in Translation (English-Spanish) from the Universidad Nacional. These pages comprise several sections: the first is the translation into Spanish of eight chapters of the novel Darjeeling1 by the Indo-American writer Bharti Kirchner. The research report, based on the translation of the book, consists of five sections. The first is the introduction and justification, both to the choice of the text and to the research topic. The first chapter comprises the most important theoretical considerations that underpin the development of the topics analyzed in the subsequent chapters. The two chapters of theme development analyze the presence of foreign words and cultural references within the text, both as causes of cultural shock (Chapter II) and as generators of meanings (Chapter III). Finally, a section of general Conclusions to which the investigation of the themes led is included. Although this volume does not pretend to be a unique answer to a literary translation problem, it is hoped that it will become material for reflection and support for the different translators who wish to enter the fascinating field of literary and cultural texts.
