Las marcas sociolectales del inglés vernáculo en la película beasts of the southern wild: la traducción de segmentos del guion

Abstract

La monografía aborda la cuestión sobre cuáles son las pautas traductoras más adecuadas para llevar a cabo la traducción de las marcas sociolectales presentes en los diálogos de los personajes del guion de la película Beasts of the Southern Wild para una audiencia popular costarricense de manera que se pueda emular la carga social original dentro de la traducción. Beasts of the Southern Wild es una obra cinematográfica, dramática y fantástica dirigida por Benh Zeitlin, y basada en la obra de un solo acto Juicy and Delicious de Lucy Alibar. Para poder alcanzar el objetivo inicial de este trabajo, se utiliza como referencia la teoría del escopo que fue propuesta por Hans J. Vermeer. Esta teoría hace énfasis en que el principio dominante de toda traducción es su finalidad. Este trabajo se centra en el análisis y traducción de los segmentos del guion que fueron categorizados en cinco indicadores dentro del inglés vernáculo negro americano: la tercera persona singular, la cópula cero, la negación, las preguntas y el tiempo verbal futuro. Se logra alcanzar los objetivos deseados por medio de la búsqueda de un sociolecto en el lenguaje meta que cuente con las mismas cargas sociolectales presentes en el sociolecto original. Con base en ese sociolecto, se crea una lista de comprobación que contiene 31 técnicas para la traducción de los indicadores al español costarricense y, es así, como se logran obtener los resultados deseados dentro del contexto situacional.

The monograph deals with the question of what the most appropriate translation techniques for the translation of the sociolectal marks are present in the dialogues of the characters in the script of Beasts of the Southern Wild for a Costa Rican popular audience so that the translator can emulate the original social connotation within the translation. Beasts of the Southern Wild is a cinematic, dramatic and fantastic work directed by Benh Zeitlin, and based on play Juicy and Delicious, by Lucy Alibar. In order to accomplish the objectives, the theory chosen was the Skopos Theory by Hans J. Vermeer. This theory emphasizes that the dominant principle of all translations is its purpose. This work focuses on the analysis and translation of the script segments that were categorized into five indicators within American Black English: the third person singular, zero copula, negation, questions, and future tense. It was possible to achieve the desired objectives by finding a sociolect in the target language that has the same sociolectal connotation. Based on this sociolect, a checklist that includes 31 techniques is created and this is the main resource to achive the desired objectives.
