The research “Virtual behaviors and interactions on Facebook of young people university students: A study from social cognition ”originates from the desire to expand knowledge in relation to new information technologies (TICS), applying psychological knowledge to the emerging adult population. When making said process, it is desired to be able to explore “non-traditional spaces” of the psychological task of our country; and thus be able to understand the current phenomena related to these technologies. The main objective of this thesis was to analyze the way in which virtual interactions (reactions, comments and shares of publications in Facebook) influence virtual behaviors, thoughts, emotions, and self-esteem of university students, this through the theory of cognition social from theoretical principles proposed by the authors Fiske and Taylor (2017). The applied methodology was mixed, since in order to achieve the specific objectives, needed to use both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, which in turn could generate a comprehensive vision in relation to the subject studied. The sample is made up of 10 emerging adults: a total of eight women and two men, all The participants are part of the cultural groups of the University National. An average of two interviews per person were conducted, along with one constant peripheral observation for two months of their activities on Facebook, the The study was carried out specifically from May 8 to July 8, 2018. Likewise, the Rosenberg Global Self-Esteem Scale was applied, standardized for Costa Rica, this in order to have an estimate of the level of self-esteem of the participants. iv Among the main results of the research are: there is a correlation in five of the participants, between the variables virtual interactions and behaviors virtual. Of these people, in three participants there was a significant correlation between the previous variables. Which means that while virtual interactions could be partly the reason that people engage in virtual behaviors, not it is necessarily the main one. In the responses of the semi-structured interviews It is found that the reason why the participants generate virtual behaviors It is not necessarily the number of interactions, but the people with whom the interactions are make. Participants want their circles of friends to think positively of its contents, this means that most of its content is shared by others profiles to avoid exposure.
