Poultry and avian diseases

Abstract

The demand for poultry products has increased in parallel with the continued growth of the human population. This could be explained by the fact that poultry meat and eggs represent an efficient source of protein and have a low production cost compared to other protein sources, such as pork and beef (Service, 2013). Currently, almost all regions of the world (Africa, North and Central America, South America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania) must improve their production systems to meet the global demand for richer and more nutritious diets. Furthermore, global trade in poultry products has also increased, especially between the main producers (the United States, Brazil, and China) and the rest of the world (Stenhouse, 2008).

La demanda de productos avícolas ha aumentado en paralelo al continuo crecimiento de la población humana. Esto podría explicarse por el hecho de que la carne y los huevos de aves de corral representan una fuente eficiente de proteínas y tienen un bajo costo de producción en comparación con otras fuentes de proteínas, como la carne de cerdo y la de res (Service, 2013). Actualmente, casi todas las regiones del mundo (África, América del Norte y Central, América del Sur, Asia, Europa y Oceanía) deben mejorar sus sistemas de producción para satisfacer la demanda mundial de dietas más ricas y nutritivas. Además, el comercio mundial de productos avícolas también ha aumentado, especialmente entre los principales productores (Estados Unidos, Brasil y China) y el resto del mundo (Stenhouse, 2008).
