Faced with the problem of a socialist democracy as a possible utopian project for our peoples, we Central American historians are obliged to situate ourselves, since there is no one better than the historian to help us (from his or her understanding of the past) to understand the present and transform the future. No discipline lends itself better to the aforementioned game of looking to the past for content to fill the emptiness of our present than history, which, as Octavio Paz says, moves on the border between science and poetry.
