Estudio retrospectivo de los cambios de la distribución espacial de la división territorial administrativa de Costa Rica, 1950-2023

Abstract

El presente trabajo describe el comportamiento de la distribución espacial de la División Territorial Administrativa de Costa Rica, a nivel de distritos, entre 1950 y 2023, con esto se busca integrar la teoría con la práctica y así ofrecer insumos reveladores e importantes al IGN, desde un punto de vista del desarrollo sostenible. El enfoque teórico, aporta desde una mirada retrospectiva, el proceso de conformación de los distritos, para describir y comprender los cambios en la división territorial y las razones de esta organización, considerando la red de relaciones condicionadas por las leyes, los sistemas económicos, factores sociales, las relaciones de poder. El enfoque es práctico, ya que se identifican y describen las variaciones espaciales, y se analiza con cartografía, la evolución de la división territorial, además, se explica la escala del tiempo y del espacio, al ordenarse la información en un sistema de información geográfica. El abordaje metodológico de esta investigación, tiene un enfoque cuantitativo/descriptivo, que se desarrolla a partir de la obtención de información de fuentes bibliográficas, que le dan sustento a la explicación de la transformación espacio temporal del territorio costarricense. El área de estudio corresponde a los 492 distritos que actualmente existen en Costa Rica, el objeto de estudio prioriza un encuadre que incluye analizar el impacto de la distribución del territorio nacional, y el recorte temporal es de 73 años, el cual inicia a partir del año 1950 a la actualidad. Para el desarrollo de esta investigación se plantea un esquema metodológico, que brinda una explicación detallada y clara, de los pasos que se siguieron en la consecución de los objetivos planteados.

This paper describes the behavior of the spatial distribution of the Administrative Territorial Division of Costa Rica, at the district level, between 1950 and 2023, with the aim of integrating theory with practice and thus offering revealing and important inputs to the NGI, from a sustainable development point of view. The theoretical approach provides, from a retrospective view, the process of conformation of the districts, to describe and understand the changes in the territorial division and the reasons for this organization, considering the network of relationships conditioned by laws, economic systems, social factors, power relations. The approach is practical, since the spatial variations are identified and described, and the evolution of the territorial division is analyzed with cartography, in addition, the scale of time and space is explained, by arranging the information in a geographic information system. The methodological approach of this research has a quantitative/descriptive focus, which is developed from the obtaining of information from bibliographic sources, which give support to the explanation of the spatial-temporal transformation of the Costa Rican territory. The area of study corresponds to the 492 districts that currently exist in Costa Rica, the object of study prioritizes a framework that includes analyzing the impact of the distribution of the national territory, and the time frame is 73 years, which begins at the beginning of the last decade.
