Implementación de una herramienta informática para la publicación, acceso y análisis de información a partir del análisis de los procesos de sismología volcánica y sus posibles efectos, para el Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico de Costa Rica (OVSICORI)

Abstract

El OVSICORI es la institución más importante en cuanto a la investigación y análisis de los procesos sismológicos y vulcanológicos que se desarrollan en el país, elaborando investigaciones y proyectos en estos campos. Tiene como meta innovar, conocer y aplicar métodos que permitan desarrollar y distribuir (publicar) este tipo de trabajos principalmente a los profesionales. Actualmente en el OVSICORI posee algunos problemas de gestión referente a la actividad sísmica-volcánica, ya que la mayoría de la información se encuentra en herramientas un poco limitadas y diferentes. Debido a las aplicaciones que se utilizan para realizar los análisis de dichas actividades, básicamente se realiza el estudio a mano, por lo cual cabe señalar que el proceso se hace tedioso y muy complicado, generando más trabajo y esfuerzo al personal del OVSICORI. Es por ello que hemos propuesto como objetivo general en nuestro trabajo realizar una aplicación informática que le permita al OVSICORI y sus profesionales el acceso, publicación y análisis de información, obtenida mediante la investigación de los eventos sísmicos ocurridos durante la actividad volcánica. Esta nueva herramienta contará con una serie de funcionalidades que ayudarán en gran medida el trabajo de los funcionarios, entre las funcionalidades más importantes podemos mencionar el proceso de representación gráfica de los datos obtenidos de los eventos sísmico-volcánicos registrados, además de sistematizar cálculos de carácter estadístico que permitirá a los encargados pasar directamente al análisis de la información obtenida. Una segunda facilidad que se implementó en el presente proyecto, es permitir a los funcionarios de OVSICORI, ubicar con mayor agilidad y precisión la localización exacta de los fenómenos ocurridos durante la actividad sísmico volcánica. La presente opción servirá a los profesionales de la institución, para ubicar no solo el punto exacto donde ocurrió el fenómeno, sino también los detalles propios de este y su relación con otros eventos similares que hayan sido registrados en el pasado, sin que los usuarios del sistema tengan que realizar ningún cálculo, o búsqueda exhaustiva.OVSICORI is the most important institution in terms of research and analysis of seismological and vulcanological processes that take place in the country, developing research and projects in these fields. Currently, OVSICORI has some management problems regarding seismic-volcanic activity, since most of the information is found in somewhat limited and different tools. Due to the applications that are used to carry out the analysis of said activities, the study is basically carried out by hand, for which it should be noted that the process becomes tedious and very complicated, generating more work and effort for the OVSICORI staff. That is why we have proposed as a general objective in our work to carry out a computer application that allows OVSICORI and its professionals to access, publish and analyze information obtained through the investigation of seismic events that occurred during volcanic activity. This new tool will have a series of functionalities that will greatly help the work of officials, among the most important functionalities we can mention the process of graphical representation of the data obtained from registered seismic-volcanic events, in addition to systematizing calculations of a statistics that will allow those in charge to go directly to the analysis of the information obtained. A second facility that was implemented in this project is to allow OVSICORI officials to locate with greater agility and precision the exact location of the phenomena that occurred during the volcanic seismic activity. This option will serve the professionals of the institution, to locate not only the exact point where the phenomenon occurred, but also its own details and its relationship with other similar events that have been registered in the past, without the users of the system have to perform any computation, or exhaustive search.
