Práctica dirigida en estomatología en especies de compañía en la clínica veterinaria H24 vets Dr. Astúa, Escazú, San José, Costa Rica

Resumen
La práctica dirigida se realizó en la Clínica Veterinaria H24Vets Dr. Astúa,
ubicada en Escazú, San José, Costa Rica, en el periodo comprendido del 12 de
abril al 28 de junio de 2022, cumpliendo con un total de 414 horas. Durante este
periodo se atendió un total de 103 consultas con 93 pacientes, de las cuales, 85
(82.5%) fueron caninos, nueve (8.7%) felinos, siete (6.9%) mascotas exóticas y dos
(1.9%) fueron cerdos. De estos pacientes se observó que la mayoría fueron
hembras, ya que 53 (51.5%) correspondió a pacientes de este sexo, mientras que
los machos se presentaron en 50 (48.5%) casos atendidos. Respecto a las edades
de los pacientes, 44 (47.3%) se encontraban en un rango de edad superior a los
nueve años, 41 (44.1%) entre el año de vida y los nueve años, mientras que
solamente ocho (8.6%) pacientes tenían menos de un año.
Los principales motivos de consulta fueron en primer lugar limpiezas
dentales, ya que se presentaron 28 (23.5%) pacientes, y en segundo lugar
inapetencia con 12 (10.2%) de los casos. Respecto a las pruebas colaterales, se
realizó un total de 124 pruebas, de las cuales, 46 (37.1%) fueron hemogramas, 44
(35.4%) fueron químicas sanguíneas, 32 (25.8%) radiografías intraorales y dos
(1.6%) correspondieron a radiografías de cráneo. El principal padecimiento
diagnosticado fue la enfermedad periodontal con 30 (24.4%) pacientes afectados y
en segundo lugar abscesos periapicales con nueve (7.3%) pacientes atendidos. De
los procedimientos realizados durante la práctica dirigida encontramos en primer
lugar limpiezas dentales ya que se realizaron 46 (36.2%) y, en segundo lugar,
exodoncias con realización de colgajo con 38 (30%) procedimientos realizados.

En el caso de los caninos, quienes representaron la mayoría de los pacientes
atendidos, 44 (51.7%) correspondieron a hembras, mientras que los machos se
presentaron en 41 (48.3%) ocasiones. En 30 (35.2%) de los caninos atendidos se
observó la presencia de enfermedad periodontal. De estos caninos, 23 (76.7%)
pacientes tenían más de nueve años, mientras que solamente siete (23.3%) fueron
pacientes con un rango de edad de entre un año y nueve años.
This practice was carried out at the H24Vets Dr. Astúa Veterinary Clinic, located in Escazú, San José, Costa Rica, from April 12 to June 28th, 2022, completing a total of 414 hours. The main reasons for consultation were firstly dental cleanings, since 28 (23.5%) patients came for this reason, and secondly loss of appetite with 12 (10.2%) of the cases. Regarding collateral tests, a total of 124 tests were performed, of which 46 (37.1%) were complete blood cell counts, 44 (35.4%) were blood chemistry, 32 (25.8%) intraoral radiographs and two (1.6%) corresponded to skull radiographs. The main disease diagnosed was periodontal disease with 30 (24.4%) affected patients and in second place periapical abscesses with nine (7.3%) affected patients. Of the procedures carried out during the practice, dental cleanings where in the first place since 46 (36.2%) were carried out and, in second place, extractions with flap with 38 (30%) procedures carried out.
