musculoesquelético 8.2% (31), respiratorio 7.1% (27) y urinario 6.4% (24);
The internship was held in the Hospital Veterinario Agromedica (HVA) and in the clinic Tamux Medicina Veterinaria (TMV) for a period of eight weeks, from June 28th to August 21st of 2021, making it 348 hours. A total of 383 consultations were participated in, 60 hospitalized cases and 80 surgical procedures, from which 380 (75.1%) were canines, 123 (23.5%) felines and seven (1.4%) exotic species (six rabbits and one hedgehog), more females (52.6%) than males (47.4%) in dogs where attended, and more males (55.4%) than females (44.6%) in cats where attended. The majority of consultations in which it was participated were prophylaxis, specifically 36% (136) (67% where vaccinations, 27% controls and 6% general check ins), followed by digestive system affections with 18.6% (70); the other commonly affected systems were integumentary system with 9.8% (37), musculoskeletal 8.2% (31), respiratory 7.1% (27) and urinary with 6.4% (24); specifically, the five more common pathologies were gastroenteritis caused by food indiscretions, feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD), parasitosis, canine respiratory complex or kennel cough and neoplasms. The most frequently performed complementary tests were complete blood count with 43% (52), ultrasounds 20% (24), radiographic studies 11.6% (14), and blood chemistry with 9.9% (12), followed by Ehrlichia spp. 6.6% (8), FIV and FeLV 4.9% (6) rapid tests and urinalysis with 4% (5). From de 60 hospitalized patients, 65% (39) were canines (19 females and 20 males) and 35% (21) felines (four females and 17 males), 26% (16) were geriatric animals from eight to 17 years, 32% (19) were juvenile of one year or less and 42% (25) were adults from more than one to seven years, being most of the hospitalized patients. xi The most performed surgical procedure was neutering, having 41 (51%) procedures, from which 39% (16) correspond to orchiectomy (castration) and 61% (25) ovariohysterectomy (spaying), succeeded by nine (11%) mass removals, eight (10%) dental cleanings, six (7.5%) biopsies, along other procedures such as otohematoma correction, splenectomy, wound sutures and drain application, orthopedics, mastectomies, herniorrhaphies, urethrostomies, shotgun pellet extraction and enterectomy and anastomosis.
