Cirugía de tejidos blandos, medicina interna y diagnóstico por imágenes en el Hospital de Especies Menores y Silvestres de la Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica.
Abstract
Se realizó una pasantía en el Hospital de Especies Menores y Silvestres
(HEMS) de la Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria de la Universidad Nacional, con una
duración de ocho semanas.
Durante este tiempo, se realizaron rotaciones en distintas áreas de trabajo
como lo fueron la parte de medicina interna, cirugía de tejidos blandos, además de
toma e interpretación de imágenes diagnósticas (radiografías y ultrasonidos).
En este período se atendieron 224 pacientes de los cuales el 48% (n=108)
fueron abordados en el área de medicina interna, el 27% (n=60) correspondieron a
pacientes de cirugía de tejidos blandos y 25% (n=56) por el servicio de imágenes
diagnósticas. Del total de pacientes, el 80% (n=179) corresponden a caninos, de los
cuales 60% (n=107) fueron casos de medicina interna, 25% (n=45) cirugía de tejidos
blandos y 15% (n=27) consulta general, el 15% (n=34) corresponde a felinos de los
cuales el 80%(n=27) fueron casos de medicina interna y 20%(n=7) fueron casos de
cirugía de tejidos blandos y el 5% (n=11) corresponde animales silvestres o exóticos
de los cuales el 100% fueron casos de medicina interna.
En el presente trabajo se describe, a fondo, un caso clínico de especial interés
debido a su complejidad, manejo integrado, recomendaciones y tratamiento.
Corresponde a un canino, macho, Pastor de Shetland, con enfermedad renal con
diagnostico presuntivo de leptospirosis. This project consisted in an eight weeks internship at the Minor Species of
Fauna Hospital (HEMS, according to its Acronym in Spanish) from the Veterinarian
School of Medicine of the Universidad Nacional, Costa Rica.
During this time, the student made his internship in different areas such as
Internal Medicine, Surgery in soft tissues as well as interpretation of diagnostics
images (x ray and ultrasound).
In this period, there were 224 species that needed medical attention, which
48% (n=108) of them were at internal medicine, 27% (n=60) of them were for surgery
in soft issues, the 25% (n=56) of them were for the interpretation and diagnostics
images. From all of them, 80% (n=179) were for dogs, which the 60% (n =107) were
cases of internal medicine, 25% (n=45) of them were for soft tissues surgery and the
15% (n=27) was for general query. The 15% (n=34) belongs to felines, which the
80% (n=27) is about internal medicine and the 20% (n=7) surgery of soft issue and
the 5% (n=11) is for exotic animals, which 100% of the were internal medicine cases.
. In this project, a clinical case of special interest due to its complexity,
integrated management, recommendations and treatment is described in depth. It
corresponds to a canine, male, Shetland Sheepdog, with kidney disease with
presumptive diagnosis of leptospirosis.
