Since the second half of the 1970s, a situation of drastic economic deterioration developed in the Dominican Republic. Prior to these years, the combination of external and internal factors made possible a stage of high economic growth. This stage corresponded to the period 1969-1976. In the external sector They influenced: the rapid rise in prices in the main export products, the relative stability of the quantum of exports, and the high influx of direct and indirect capital, among others. Internally, those with the greatest influence were the import substitution policy, the behavior of gross domestic investment, the high flow of credits to the productive sectors and the notable dynamism of the most important economic sectors. A large part of these factors were in turn those that subsequently stagnated the economy. They were joined by new ones arising from the situation and evolution of the international economy. Among them, the spiral in oil prices, the upward trend in the international interest rate, and the US protectionist policy stand out. The crisis has deepened since its inception -naturally, in some years there was a slight recovery- and, at the dawn of the 1980s, it became explosive.es_ES
