Resumen
Este documento es un informe de una pasantía de 320 horas realizada durante
el 11 de enero al 14 de marzo de 2021, cumpliendo cuatro semanas en el Hospital de
Especies Menores y Silvestres (HEMS), de la Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria de la
Universidad Nacional (UNA) de Costa Rica, y cuatro semanas en el Instituto
Veterinario Docente (IVDSA), en Santa Ana, Costa Rica.
Se participó en la atención de 287 pacientes, 240 (84%) caninos, 34 (12%)
felinos y 13 (4%) animales no convencionales. De estos animales, 216 (75%)
correspondieron a casos de medicina interna, 151 (53%) fueron parte del servicio de
imágenes diagnósticas, y en 64 (22%) ocasiones se les realizó procedimientos
quirúrgicos de tejidos blandos.
En el presente trabajo se describe la labor realizada por el pasante, además de
la dinámica de trabajo apoyado con estadística descriptiva de la casuística en los
respectivos centros médicos.
Adicionalmente, se complementa con el desarrollo y explicación de un caso
clínico, correspondiente a una lobectomía pulmonar por adenocarcinoma, de especial
interés debido a tener un manejo íntegro, completo y complejo, tanto por el personal
del HEMS como por el compromiso de la propietaria con su mascota.
This document is a report of a 320-hour internship held from January 11 to March 14, 2021, serving four weeks at the Hospital de Especies Menores y Silvestres (HEMS), of the Veterinary School Medicine of the Universidad Nacional (UNA) of Costa Rica, and four weeks at the Instituto Veterinario Docente (IVDSA) in Santa Ana, Costa Rica. The care attention was performed to 287 patients, 240 (84%) canines, 34 (12%) felines and 13 (4%) exotic and wild animals. Of these animals, 216 (75%) correspond to internal medicine cases, 151 (53%) were part of the diagnostic imaging service, and on 64 (22%) occasions they underwent soft tissue surgical procedures. The work carried out by the intern is described, in addition to the work dynamics supported with descriptive statistics of the casuistry in the respective medical centers. Additionally, it is complemented with de development and explanation of a clinical case, corresponding to a pulmonary lobectomy because of an adenocarcinoma, of special interest due to having an integral, complete, and complex management, both by the HEMS staff and the owner's commitment to his pet.
