Resumen
El presente trabajo es el informe escrito de la pasantía realizada en el Laboratorio de
Patología de la Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria de la Universidad Nacional de Costa
Rica, la cual se realizó desde el 5 de enero hasta el 24 de marzo de 2021.
Durante este periodo se analizaron 923 citologías, también se participó en la tinción y
preparación de especímenes citológicos y líquidos corporales remitidos al laboratorio
durante la realización de la pasantía. Se documentó la casuística de muestras
remitidas en el año 2020, 799 muestras analizadas fueron de caninos, en cuanto a la
edad se tuvo una mayor proporción de pacientes de edad media de entre seis y diez
años, se analizaron 549 muestras de nódulos y 238 muestras de órganos, la neoplasia
fue la etiología más diagnosticada con 391 muestras, seguido de 158 muestras no
significativas y 147 muestras de etiología inflamatoria. En nueve casos de los 923
analizados se logró confirmar el diagnostico citológico mediante histopatología. Se
utilizó la técnica de inmunohistoquímica para la tipificación de siete tumores.
The present document is the report of the externship carried out in the Pathology Laboratory of the School of Veterinary Medicine of the National University of Costa Rica, which took place from January 5th to March 24th of 2021. During this period 923 cytology’s were analyzed, there was participation in the staining and preparation of cytological specimens and body fluids sent to the laboratory during the externship. The 2020 caseload was documented, 799 of samples analyzed corresponded to canines, the greater proportion of patients were middle aged from six to ten years of age, 549 samples from nodules and 238 samples from organs were analyzed, neoplasm was the most diagnosed etiology with 391 samples, followed by 158 non-diagnostic samples and 147 of inflammatory etiology. It was possible to confirm the cytologic diagnosis by histopathology on nine of the 923 analyzed samples. The immunohistochemistry technique was used for the typification of seven tumors.
