Abstract

La obra "Los negros y la Virgen de los Ángeles", del Sacerdote e historiador Manuel Benavides Barquero, analiza la historia de los negros en torno a "La Negrita", el hallazgo de la Virgen, su nombre y el aporte de los negros y mulatos a su devoción desde la cofradía del mismo nombre. Otros temas como la visita pastoral del Obispo Pedro Agustín Morel de Santa Cruz, la propagación del culto, los negros y el cacao de Matina en el Altar de la Virgen, y las milicias. Analiza las observaciones de Monseñor Sanabria, porque considera que no sólo debió revisarsre el hallazgo con los Documentos de la Curia, pues debieron considerarse documentos de Monseñor Thiel, que indicaba que la aparición pudo ser en el año 1618, Además, los testamentos de la época en las advocaciones del año 1629 señalan como intercesora a la Reina de Los Ángeles,y también en el año 1633 y no en el año1635.
