There is a commonly accepted thesis for studies of Costa Rican history that supports the legalistic tendency that has characterized our society from an early age. This is affirmed in writings ranging from the Hernán Peralta to the most recent ones such as that of Eugenio Rodríguez Vega. The idea of this Costa Rican civilian vocation is closely linked to the statement that Costa Rica, unlike the rest of the countries of America, brandished the Code as the only combat weapon. For Hernán Peralta, Costa Rica was the only Spanish-American nation that availed itself of the law from the moment of its political emancipation, and only on certain occasions have there been fractures, in any case momentary, to that rule of conduct.
