The present work constitutes an essay-synthesis about the journey of the indigenous sectors in Guatemala during the last decade, in which, hand in hand with the other oppressed and exploited sectors, they burst into civil society for the first time, as the most dynamic, sensitizing other sectors to commit themselves in the construction of a country where there is social justice, which is what is intended with the process of pacification and democratization. In addition, the objectives of this research are: to assess the process of negotiations between government and insurgency, and the impact on civil society; and to determine the levels, modalities and scope of indigenous participation in civil society. This bibliographic-documentary research is situated in Guatemala from 1986, when the cycle of civil governments began, until 1996, when the firm and lasting peace between the government and the Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity was to be signed. The work is organized in five chapters. Chapter I corresponds to the structural framework that configures the situation of the indigenous people, Chapter II, refers to the actors involved in the conflict, Chapter III talks about the indigenous invasion as civil society. Chapter IV is about the Negotiation Process between the Government and the URNG, and finally chapter V is about the limits, potential and challenges of the indigenous movement.es_ES
