The pasanty was conducted at the Hospital de Espedies Menores y Silvestres in the Uniersidad Nacional, located in Barreal, Heredia, during the months of May to September 2009. During this period, a total of 171 canines presented illness localized at the digestive system. An endoscopic study was performed in eight of them, analyzing the upper gastrointestinal tract, evaluation the color and the texture of the mucosa, as well as any morphological abnormality, and/or the presence of foreign bodies. Along whit the endoscopic study, other diagnostic techniques were implemented such as biopsy, lavages and citologies, which helped to determine more accurately the conditions presented in the animals studied. At the esophagic level, the study showed a higher amount of diseases (n = 6), than at the stomach (n = 3), being spirocercosis the most frequent pathology in four patients (50%), followed by chronic superficial gastritis in two (25%), whereas only patient (12.5%) whit a diverticulum (at the esophagus), and one patient (12.5%) had a foreign body obstruction (at the esophagus) were evaluated.
