This work was done along 18 months, from July 2003 to December 2004. During its performance a total of 208 equines were examined, among the different provinces of Costa Rica; 168 of which were examined for only one clinical problem and 40 for two or more problems. 71 out of the 208 equines present as clinical problem one or more dermatopathies. For compiling the information in an orderly and complete way, questionnaries were applied, in which each equine`s owner had to give information about the dermatopathy and its evolution. Depending on the kind of injury each equine had, the most appropriate diagnostic methods were chosen in order to obtain a definitive diagnostic, even though in some cases this was not possible. Some cases are interesting, because they are not common pathologies, for example, a stallion with a penile form of squamous cell carcinoma, other stallion with pemphigus foliaceus and psoroptic mange in a mare. With regard to the dermatopathies that appear in other countries, Costa Rica isn`t an exception, taking into consideration that`s necessary to take in some studies of more cases, trying to include equines from all the provinces in the same proportion.
