This could be explained by the fact that poultry meat and eggs represent an efficient source of protein and have a low production cost compared to other protein sources, such as pork and beef (Service, 2013). Currently, almost all regions of the world (Africa, North and Central America, South America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania) must improve their production systems to meet the global demand for richer and more nutritious diets. Furthermore, global trade in poultry products has also increased, especially between the main producers (the United States, Brazil, and China) and the rest of the world (Stenhouse, 2008).
