Regulación del precio del arroz, técnica o política

Abstract

Históricamente el país ha regulado el precio, la calidad y las condiciones técnicas de producción, industrialización y comercialización del arroz. La segunda y tercera categorías regulatorias no ha sido objeto de gran debate público, ciertamente los productos alimentarios requieren llegar a los consumidores bajo los mejores estándares de calidad e inocuidad y deben mantenerse normas coherentes al producir, empacar, almacenar y distribuir la producción. Empero, la regulación de precios ha sido objeto de innumerables críticas, de mitos y realidades. Quiero concentrarme en esta última y en los avatares recientes que ponen a las autoridades del MEIC, nuevamente en la picota.

Historically, the country has regulated the price, quality and technical conditions of rice production, industrialization and marketing. The second and third regulatory categories have not been the subject of much public debate, certainly food products need to reach consumers under the best standards of quality and safety and consistent standards must be maintained when producing, pack, store and distribute production. However, price regulation has been the subject of countless criticisms, myths and realities. I want to focus on the latter and the recent developments that put the MEIC authorities back in the saddle.
