The concept of wonderful may well be associated with that of extraordinary. In its same etymological origin, marvel means "strange, remarkable things" and strange is associated, also in its etymology, with exterior. Therefore, to think the wonderful requires two zones of meaning, one of which is "strange", "external" to the other. For the surrealism that is the formative force of Carpentier, the marvelous was inscribed in reality in the form of a second reality that had to be discovered, the result being an absence or overcoming of the contradictory appearances of reality, a dead point of conjunction of the opposites, in which there is no wonder to see dreams turned into reality and realities into dreams or the future in the past or the future in the future.
