In the following pages, we present a brief demographic analysis of the group of Spanish immigrants charged with the conquest and colonization of Costa Rican territories. Under the command of Captain Diego de Artieda y Chirinos, 334 individuals, including adults and children of both sexes, from different Spanish regions, set sail from Santlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz) for Costa Rica. Once they had overcome the legal and bureaucratic obstacles imposed by the House of Trade in Seville, they were finally able to embark on a voyage.
