Resumen
El siguiente documento trata de brindar una idea general de la
dinámica social y económica de la cuenca del río Grande de Térraba,
con el objetivo de identificar y dar una caracterización de
los principales factores que influyen en su dinámica. Igualmente,
identifica actores claves y sus principales acciones en la cuenca.
Este estudio forma parte de una investigación desarrollada por la
Escuela de Relaciones Internacionales de la Universidad Nacional,
en el marco del proyecto LiveDiverse: Sustainable Livelihoods and
Biodiversity in Riparian Areas in Developing Countries, within the
7th Framework Programme Environment. Este proyecto es financiado
por la European Comission y cuenta con la participación de
ocho instituciones en igual número de países, siendo los estudios
de caso, sin embargo, desarrollados en cuatro países: Costa Rica,
Vietnam, Sudáfrica e India. El objetivo del estudio es desarrollar
estrategias que permitan, por un lado, mejorar las condiciones de
vida de las poblaciones locales y, por otro lado, proteger la biodiversidad
en áreas altamente vulnerables y definidas por regímenes
hídricos.
