Costa Rica is a country where beekeeping activity has been practiced during decades, and the main and only product derived from this activity is honey, leaving aside alternative products which can also be obtained from the hive. In order to explore these alternatives this document presents a study whose purpose is to determine the technical and financial feasibility to produce royal jelly in the Central Pacific Zone. This research showed that it is possible to produce an average yield of 313mg of royal jelly by cell during the summer season (January April). Yield ranges between 400 and 614 mg of royal jelly by cell were also obtained, these ranges are within Chinese standars of production. During the winter season (May June), instead, the production decreased: it was obtained an average yield of 103mg of royal jelly by cell, a significantly lower number than the obtained during the summer season. In addition, it was also determined that this substance is more technical and financial manageable for a beekeeper with more than 30 hives than for a person who is starting in this activity from zero (right in the starting zone).
