Miradas culturales a la historia de América Latina: ensayos para un debate

Abstract

Este libro recoge casi quince años de una intensa experiencia intelectual desarrollada entre las aulas universitarias, las lecturas de disímiles textos y el debate con intelectuales y amigos y amigas de Latinoamérica en tono a su tema central: la comprensión de la historia y de las sociedades de América Latina desde una perspectiva cultural. Los textos seleccionados indagan en tal problemática, a partir de dos esenciales prismas metodológicos: la historia de la cultura y la historia cultural del continente. Como sabemos, desde cada una podemos examinar los temas escogidos obteniendo lecturas paralelas y propias; pero, a la vez, formando un corpus interpretativo integral del continente. Si bien el conjunto de los trabajos aquí reunidos no pretende arribar a una totalidad interpretativa, sí aspira proponer ideas para iniciar debates en torno al tema escogido. El libro se ha dividido en cuatro partes, en la primera se exponen varios textos sobre la historia de la cultura cubana, selección que se entiende a primera vista por ser mi país natal, y donde inicié estos acercamientos desde la Universidad de La Habana como profesor de Historia de la Cultura Cubana entre el 2001 y 2016. Las otras tres partes constituyen un segundo momento que se inició con mi llegada a Costa Rica en 2016 y la continuidad de mi labor docente e intelectual en la Universidad Nacional. Desde ambas circunstancias, la visión cultural de Latinoamérica fue creciendo de manera progresiva hasta el presente. Se reúnen aquí quince textos escritos entre el 2004 y el 2020; varios ya han sido publicados en libros y revistas especializadas de Cuba, Panamá y Costa Rica, otros son inéditos y preparados para esta complicación. A través de estos, intento exponer una visión sobre la cultura como un concepto histórico, cuya universalidad social permite entender la sociedad a partir de sus entramados de relaciones sociales, mediante los cuales se producen y reproducen, constantemente, órdenes sociales jerarquizados a partir de estructuras hegemónicas de poder y control. Si bien la historia de Cuba y de América Latina es la base contextual e informativa de los trabajos compilados, sus interpretaciones fácticas y teóricas constituyen el mayor interés para discutir sobre los caminos hermenéuticos de nuestro continente. Con ese fin, anhelo que la mayoría de sus lectores sean estudiantes de estudios generales, de ciencias sociales, de historia, profesionales de la historia y toda persona lectora interesada en ahondar en la historia como ciencia, pasión y arma: a fin de cuentas, interpretar el mundo y sus épocas es un deber y derecho de cada generación humana.
