An informational video produced as part of the CONARE Investiga initiative, featuring Dr. Gaby Dolz, coordinator of the FES project “Search for Antigens for the Immunodiagnosis of Paragonimiasis in Costa Rica: A Potentially Lethal Foodborne Zoonosis” and coordinator of the Zoonoses and Entomology Laboratory at the School of Veterinary Medicine of the National University (UNA), explains key aspects of paragonimiasis. The video presents, in an accessible manner, key elements regarding the parasite’s life cycle, the challenges in diagnosing it, and general treatment approaches, highlighting the importance of improving diagnostic tools to strengthen surveillance and the timely detection of this neglected tropical disease. The video underscores the importance of the One Health approach—which integrates human, animal, and environmental health—and the contribution of veterinary research to the understanding and control of zoonoses in Costa Rica.
