Almost 30 years ago, in 1988, the country, and very especially the different regions of the Pacific suffered the damage caused by Hurricane Joan (better known like Juana), who on that occasion was even close to touching Caribbean lands Costa Rican. Interestingly, the affectation that moved the public at the end of the 1980s, had a precedent in a forgotten situation of disaster, happened 33 years back, in September-October 1955, when a series of cyclones originated in waters of the Caribe (Hilda, Janet and Kattie), without actually touching Central American territory, ended up affecting several of the main basins and communities especially located in floodplains of the Pacific Coast.
