This research focuses on the importance of identifying the evolution of employment and unemployment in the labor market of the Central Pacific and Brunca regions of Costa Rica, considering both regional and national economic dynamics. The main objective is to describe the behavior of these variables in the economically active population (EAP), broken down by age, level of education, formality and sex. To do so, a description of the evolution of these variables from 2010 to 2023 is made, using the Continuous Employment Survey and the National Household Survey, both from the INEC. Among some of the main findings, variations in the population growth rate are identified between both regions; while in the Central Pacific, the growth is 3.7% on average per year, in the Brunca it is only 0.7%. In addition, for both regions, a decrease in the average size of households and an increase in female heads of household are found, accompanied by greater participation of women in the labor market. There is also evidence of an increase in the educational level of the population and a reduction in the labour participation of people between 15 and 24 years of age, which is associated with a reduction of this age group in the EAP.
