The purpose of this work was to find alternative uses for agricultural residues. Cellulose acetylation of pineapple husk, rice husk and sawdust was carried out. The acetylation reaction was carried out with acetic anhydride, acetic acid and sulfuric acid as catalyst. Products with yields between 46% and 74% and a degree of substitution of 2.4-2.7 were obtained. The IR spectra of these products were similar to industrial ones. They have good solubility in acetone-water mixtures and softening temperatures were lower than for industrial acetate. Pulp from pineapple waste gave the best results.
