Resumen
El mercado laboral costarricense al tercer trimestre del 2021 se encuentra compuesto por 2 471 778 de personas, poco menos de la mitad de la población total del país. Una tasa de ocupación de 51,6%; un nivel de desempleo total de 15,3%, que representa a 378 130 personas, y una situación más complicada si consideramos un 16,5% de desempleo ampliado. El subempleo llega a 13,4%, lo que significa que, de las personas ocupadas, 280 549 laboran en una jornada inferior a cuarenta horas semanales (INEC, 2021). Asimismo, según la Encuesta Nacional de Hogares del 2021, el país presenta un 23% de pobreza; es decir, 383 505 hogares del territorio nacional se encuentran en condición de pobreza.

An occupancy rate of 51.6%; a total unemployment level of 15.3%, which represents 378,130 people, and a more complicated situation if we consider a 16.5% extended unemployment. Underemployment reaches 13.4%, which means that, of the employed people, 280,549 work less than forty hours per week (INEC, 2021). Likewise, according to the 2021 National Household Survey, the country has 23% poverty; that is, 383,505 households in the national territory are in a condition of poverty.
