In the numerous controversies that the attempt to build a "new university model" has given rise to, it has been repeated, giving it characteristics of common place, a sustained statement, with different nuances, by thinkers and disseminators of one or the other. sign. At least in the expression, the agreement is basic: the University is not called to play a leadership role in the social, political and economic transformation of the country. In the University the revolution is not directed; the direction of development does not depend on it. Some will exaggerate the tonic to deny any political or social function of the academic community, even thinking about the cultivation of a science that proceeds neatly and asepsis, at a distance from real conflicts. Others, simply, without denying that a political function corresponds to it, will place it according to proportions that they deem due. All, however, for very different reasons, seem to worry about the possibility that too much attention is focused on the social dynamizing role of a university whose very transformation, to a large extent, can only be the result of the transformation of society in that is immersed.
