Resumen
El presente informe tiene como objetivo describir los resultados de la encuesta
“Percepciones de la población costarricense sobre cambio climático y salud
humana” aplicada del 3 al 15 de noviembre del año 2018 a una muestra de 871
personas mayores de 18 años de edad, costarricenses y extranjeras con más de años
de residir en el territorio nacional.
Este informe ha sido estructurado en cuatro apartados generales. En el primer
apartado se introducen las razones que justifican un estudio de opinión sobre
cambio climático y salud humana en Costa Rica. Se presenta el contexto a partir del
cual se originó la idea de realizar la encuesta, así como la forma en que fueron
definidas las líneas temáticas del instrumento de recolección de datos.
El segundo apartado describe el conjunto de tareas metodológicas ejecutadas en el
desarrollo de la encuesta. Este apartado ha sido subdividido en seis secciones que
permiten explicar las características del cuestionario, la definición de la población
de estudio, el marco muestral, y la aplicación de la encuesta. También se describen
aspectos asociados con el diseño del manual de crítica y el manual de códigos, y
los paquetes estadísticos utilizados en el análisis de resultados. La última sección
relata cómo fueron comunicados los principales resultados de este estudio.
El tercer apartado presenta un análisis descriptivo de los resultados de la encuesta.
Se inicia con una síntesis general de las características sociodemográficas de la
población costarricense entrevistada. Posteriormente, se hace una reflexión acerca
de la comprensión del concepto de cambio climático, las interrelaciones que se
establecen entre éste y la salud humana, y las actitudes y los comportamientos que
provocan o contribuyen a detener sus afectaciones sobre la sociedad nacional.
El último apartado consiste en una reflexión acerca de los cuatro principales
hallazgos de la encuesta de opinión. Se analizan las creencias y las percepciones de
la población costarricense acerca de las causas y las manifestaciones del cambio
climático. Con tal fin, se reflexiona de qué manera se asumen las afecciones sobre
la salud humana, las responsabilidades individuales y colectivas para detener el
cambio climático, y el nivel de información y acción con el que cuenta la población
para gestionar acciones que contribuyan a detener los efectos humanos y
ambientales de dicho fenómeno.
The objective of this report is to describe the results of the survey “Perceptions of the Costa Rican population about climate change and health human” applied from November 3 to 15, 2018 to a sample of 871 people over 18 years of age, Costa Ricans and foreigners over 18 years of age to reside in the national territory. This report has been structured into four general sections. In the first section introduces the reasons that justify an opinion study on Climate change and human health in Costa Rica. The context is presented from the which the idea of conducting the survey originated, as well as the way in which they were defined the thematic lines of the data collection instrument. The second section describes the set of methodological tasks executed in the development of the survey. This section has been subdivided into six sections that allow explaining the characteristics of the questionnaire, the definition of the population of study, the sampling frame, and the application of the survey. They are also described aspects associated with the design of the critique manual and the code manual, and the statistical packages used in the analysis of results. The last section relates how the main results of this study were communicated. The third section presents a descriptive analysis of the survey results. It begins with a general synthesis of the sociodemographic characteristics of the Costa Rican population interviewed. Subsequently, a reflection is made about of understanding the concept of climate change, the interrelationships that establish between it and human health, and the attitudes and behaviors that cause or contribute to stopping its effects on national society. The last section consists of a reflection on the four main opinion survey findings. The beliefs and perceptions of the Costa Rican population about the causes and manifestations of change climate. To this end, we reflect on how the conditions are assumed human health, individual and collective responsibilities to stop the climate change, and the level of information and action available to the population to manage actions that contribute to stopping the human effects and environmental aspects of this phenomenon.
