El herbicida glifosato y sus alternativas

Abstract

Desde finales del siglo XX, ha cambiado la visión científica hacia un desarrollo más sostenible, buscando equilibrar el crecimiento económico con la protección del ambiente. El glifosato, aunque ha sido útil en el control de malezas, también ha generado impactos negativos en la salud y el ecosistema. Ante esto, crecen las demandas sociales y gubernamentales para restringir su uso. Este documento ofrece información actualizada sobre sus efectos y presenta alternativas viables y sostenibles para el manejo de arvenses en distintos cultivos. La elaboración de este documento fue posible gracias al apoyo del Fondo Global de Subvenciones Verdes (GGF), IPEN y RAPAL.

Since the late 20th century, scientific thinking has shifted toward sustainable development, aiming to balance economic growth with the protection of natural systems. Glyphosate, a widely used herbicide in agriculture and other areas, has contributed to weed control and food production but at significant environmental and health costs. As awareness grows, civil society and some governments are calling for restrictions or bans, despite industry pressure. This document provides updated information on glyphosate’s impacts on human health, ecosystems, and non-target organisms, as well as viable alternatives for weed management across various crops and conditions.
