Resumen
En un país como Costa Rica, en el que
ha ocurrido un desarrollo vertiginoso de
la actividad del turismo alternativo desde
hace casi tres décadas, se plantea la necesidad de discutir sobre las condiciones
relacionadas con la sostenibilidad de las
actividades turísticas y de los elementos
naturales y culturales que son ofrecidos en
su visita al turista. En el turismo alternativo,
las modalidades de ecoturismo y turismo
rural, por ejemplo, ofrecen la oportunidad
de conocer las comunidades, las áreas sil vestres protegidas y los lugares que son ri cos en patrimonio cultural e histórico. Los
senderos turísticos son fundamentales en
la actividad de descubrimiento de estos
atractivos por parte del turista. Estos ca minos deben ser diseñados y se debe pla niicar su articulación con las actividades
económicas y sociales de la comunidad
y la región en la que se encuentran, para
que puedan constituirse en una verdadera
oportunidad de negocios para los pobla dores locales, para generar empleo y ha cer un uso sostenible de los atractivos ofre cidos durante la visitación.
Para el desarrollo de este libro se planteó
como propósito explicar de forma clara y
breve los aspectos fundamentales en el di seño de senderos turísticos, con la inalidad
de que el documento sea una guía para
tratar este tema con los estudiantes que
inician sus estudios universitarios en el área
de turismo. Es importante rescatar que se
utilizan ejemplos y iguras con el objetivo
de ilustrar los temas. Se trató, siempre que
fue posible, de utilizar ejemplos y fotogra fías de senderos y atractivos en Costa Rica.
Este libro plantea que, con relación al tema
de los senderos turísticos, existen puntos crí ticos relacionados con la necesidad de re conocer que el turismo en senderos puede
suponer la degradación del mismo, que el
sendero y sus atractivos tienen un límite de
uso y por lo tanto, su apertura y el diseño
de su itinerario requieren de una gestión
sostenible que garantice la conservación
de los atractivos que originaron su apertura. Estos temas se tratan en un documento
que se subdivide en cinco capítulos.
