Resumen
El final de la Guerra Fría trajo profundos
cambios en la relación de la sociedad costarricense
con el mundo. Así, de ser parte de unas de las
regiones más relevantes durante la década de 1980
se pasó a una situación marginal en un mundo que
se consideraba nuevamente pacífico. Del objetivo
del mantenimiento de la paz en Centroamérica se
pasó a enfrentar un proceso de expansión de los
mercados y la globalización económica, en que se
tenía menos acceso a la cooperación internacional.
Si bien la conclusión de la Guerra Fría no fue el fin
de la historia, significó para Costa Rica el fin de una
etapa que inició en la década de 1940.
