Abstract
The objective of this report is to describe the results of the survey
“Perceptions of the Costa Rican population about climate change and health
human” applied from November 3 to 15, 2018 to a sample of 871
people over 18 years of age, Costa Ricans and foreigners over 18 years of age
to reside in the national territory.
This report has been structured into four general sections. In the first
section introduces the reasons that justify an opinion study on
Climate change and human health in Costa Rica. The context is presented from the
which the idea of conducting the survey originated, as well as the way in which they were
defined the thematic lines of the data collection instrument.
The second section describes the set of methodological tasks executed in the
development of the survey. This section has been subdivided into six sections that
allow explaining the characteristics of the questionnaire, the definition of the population
of study, the sampling frame, and the application of the survey. They are also described
aspects associated with the design of the critique manual and the code manual, and
the statistical packages used in the analysis of results. The last section
relates how the main results of this study were communicated.
The third section presents a descriptive analysis of the survey results.
It begins with a general synthesis of the sociodemographic characteristics of the
Costa Rican population interviewed. Subsequently, a reflection is made about
of understanding the concept of climate change, the interrelationships that
establish between it and human health, and the attitudes and behaviors that
cause or contribute to stopping its effects on national society.
The last section consists of a reflection on the four main
opinion survey findings. The beliefs and perceptions of
the Costa Rican population about the causes and manifestations of change
climate. To this end, we reflect on how the conditions are assumed
human health, individual and collective responsibilities to stop the
climate change, and the level of information and action available to the population
to manage actions that contribute to stopping the human effects and
environmental aspects of this phenomenon.
