Ha habido novela histórica desde los inicios de la república. Novela histórica picaresca o romántica, por ejemplo: El Periquillo Sarniento, de José Joaquín Fernández de Lizardi (1816), Amalia, de José Mármol (1840). También hubo novela histórica modernista: La Gloria de Don Ramiro, de Enrique Larreta (1908). Pero es a partir de los años 70, junto con el llamado "boom" de la novela latinoamericana, y especialmente después, que se fortalece una tendencia bien definida en la producción de novelas históricas en Latinoamérica.
There have been historical novels since the beginning of the republic. Picaresque or romantic historical novels, for example: El Periquillo Sarniento, by José Joaquín Fernández de Lizardi (1816), Amalia, by José Mármol (1840). There was also a modernist historical novel: La Gloria de Don Ramiro, by Enrique Larreta (1908). But it's from the 70s onwards along with the so-called "boom" of the Latin American novel, and especially afterwards, that a well-defined trend in the production of historical novels in Latin America is strengthened.
