This final graduation paper is entitled The Challenges for the Teaching of Social Studies in times of pandemic: the use of the TEAMS digital platform and the Autonomous Work Guides during the 2020 School Year: the case of St. Alphonsus Redemptorist School. Its purpose was to study the challenges faced by the teaching of Social Studies during the 2020 school year due to the health pandemic caused by COVID-19. Based on the study of the specific context of 2020, the object of study was delimited to the analysis of the TEAMS digital platform and the Autonomous Work Guides (GTA), which were the main strategies employed by the Ministry of Education to give continuity to the 2020 school year as a response to the health emergency. Specifically, we sought to analyze to what extent the use of these "emergency" strategies affected the approach with which MEP planned to direct the teaching of Social Studies from that year onwards. This research focused on the teaching staff of the Social Studies course at Colegio Redentorista San Alfonso, since, as a representative element, we sought to rescue their experiences and challenges to teach Social Studies within an unprecedented context of pandemic. In order to have a complete picture of the phenomenon studied, the information provided by the teachers was related to that expressed by a National Social Studies Advisor, and various printed sources were also consulted. This project contributes to the improvement of the teaching of Social Studies, since it analyzes a socio-educational phenomenon that has no precedent in Costa Rica, and from which we seek to extract lessons that could be used to evaluate the possibility of implementing a hybrid educational model in the near future in the country.
