Pasantía en medicina de equinos y bovinos, en el Hospital de Equinos, Especies Mayores y Terapias Regenerativas de la Universidad Nacional y giras de campo
Abstract
La pasantía se realizó desde el 26 de julio de 2021 hasta el 05 de noviembre
de 2021, para un total de 600 horas. Se atendieron 1401 animales, de los cuales 38
fueron equinos (2.7%) y 1363 bovinos (97.3%). La pasantía tuvo lugar en las
instalaciones del Hospital de Equinos, Especies Mayores y Terapias Regenerativas
de la Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria de la Universidad Nacional, donde se
atendieron 35 animales (predominantemente equinos: 31 pacientes) y en giras de
campo se evaluaron 1363 animales (predominantemente bovinos: 1359 animales).
Dentro de las actividades realizadas durante la pasantía, destacan: atención de 85
casos particulares (46%), 38 intervenciones quirúrgicas (21%), 49 visitas a finca de
salud de hato (27%) y 11 prácticas de laboratorio (6%).
De los 85 casos atendidos el 44.7% (38 pacientes) correspondió con equinos
y el 55.3% (47 pacientes) con bovinos. En el HEMT – UNA se atendió 41.2% (35
animales) de los pacientes, mientras que durante las giras de campo se atendió el
58.2% (50 animales). Los principales sistemas afectados fueron:
musculoesquelético y reproductor. Dentro de las pruebas complementarias
laboratoriales la más usada fue hemograma, seguido de las químicas sanguíneas y
para el diagnóstico por imágenes resaltan la radiología y ultrasonografía. De las 38
cirugías que se realizaron, 12 correspondieron a cirugías ortopédicas y 26 cirugías
de tejidos blandos. El abordaje mínimamente invasivo se utilizó en diez de las
cirugías realizadas (26.3%), las demás se realizaron mediante el abordaje
convencional.

Con respecto a la medicina preventiva, se llevó a cabo mediante visitas
periódicas de salud de hato a las fincas. Se realizó un total de 49 visitas, atendiendo
1359 animales, enfocados en: diagnóstico reproductivo, descornes, recorte
funcional, vacunación, casos clínicos, cirugías y registros de información. The externship was carried out from July 26, 2021 to November 5, 2021, for

Of the 85 cases treated, 44.7% (38 patients) were equine and 55.3% (47
patients) were bovine. At the HEMT – UNA 41.2% (35 animals) of the patients were
treated and the other 58.2% (50 animals) were treated at the field trips. The main
systems affected were: musculoskeletal and reproductive. Among the
complementary laboratory tests, the most used was a blood count followed by blood
chemistry and for imaging diagnosis, radiology and ultrasonography stand out. Of
the 38 surgeries that were performed, 12 correspond to orthopedic surgeries and 26
soft tissue surgeries. The minimally invasive approach was used in 10 of the
surgeries performed (26.3%), the rest were performed using the open approach.
Regarding to preventive medicine, it was carried out through periodic herd
health visits to the farms, a total of 49 visits were made, attending 1359 animals,
focused on: reproductive diagnosis, dehorning, functional clipping, vaccination,
clinical cases, surgeries and records of information.
