Curiosamente, la afectación que conmovió a la ciudadanía a finales de los años 1980, tenía precedente en una olvidada coyuntura de desastre, acaecida 33 años atrás, en setiembre-octubre de 1955, cuando una serie de ciclones originados en aguas del Caribe (Hilda, Janet y Kattie), sin llegar a tocar territorio centroamericano, terminaron afectando varias de las principales cuencas y comunidades especialmente ubicadas en tierras inundables del litoral Pacífico.Almost 30 years ago, in 1988, the country, and very especially the different regions of the Pacific suffered the damage caused by Hurricane Joan (better known like Juana), who on that occasion was even close to touching Caribbean lands Costa Rican.
