El plantear un proyecto como "Saber ambiental: teoría y práctica para una mejor calidad de vida” lleva consigo un gran compromiso, ya que la experiencia investigativa desarrollada en los últimos años en el área ambiental del IDESPO, nos ha aportado suficiente información para diagnosticar la percepción que como pueblo costarricense tenemos sobre el tema ambiental, que es trascendental para la sobrevivencia. Muchos son los problemas «ambientales que afectan alas comunidades y al entorno más inmediato en el cual nos desenvolvemos. Entre ellos se pueden citar: la sobrepoblación, la contaminación de diferentes tipos, los más comunes la contaminación atmosférica y del agua, debilitamiento de la capa de ozono, destrucción de las áreas naturales y de vida silvestre, desgaste de los recursos renovables, inversión térmica y efecto invernadero, la inadecuada disposición de los desechos sólidos, la deforestación y la erosión, entre otros. Nos encontramos ante un ambiente fuertemente deteriorado por las prácticas de sobrevivencia destructiva que hemos hecho como seres humanos. La alternativa del futuro de la humanidad y del Planeta depende de lo que hagamos ahora, la alternativa es pensar, conocer y actuar, en suma es comprometemos a trabajar por el ambiente.Going from theory to practice is a complex process and on many occasions people know what to do; but assuming favorable decisions and attitudes for the environment is a more complex step and one of greater importance for the future of humanity.
