Dentro de estas perspectivas, la investigación constituye, en el quehacer universitario, el instrumento y medio viabilizador en las acciones tendientes al logro de este propósito_ Así el Area de Investigación de la Facultad de Ciencias Sociales, a través de los Departamentos, Escuelas e Institutos que la forman y la propia Unidad Coordinadora de Investigación y Documentación (UCID), han tratado de desarrollar un trabajo creativo para conocer e interpretar la realidad nacional". En el presente, el quehacer investigativo se enfrenta al reto de la "crisis" que obliga a investigar para formular una estrategia viable sobre la realidad social costarricense, que contribuya al desarrollo inmediato y futuro del país.In the formal justification of this event we say that: "The fundamental mission of the National University is to contribute to the knowledge of the social reality in order to improve it.
