An attempt is made to contribute to the Salvadoran historiography related to the fall of General Maximiliano Hernández Martínez in May 1944, as a result of the famous "sit-down strike" and the failed military uprising on April 2 and 3 of that year. Of the many studies that have dealt with these events, none makes extensive reference to the military lawsuit filed against those indicted in the uprising. Counting on a copy of the file, correlated with the existing bibliography, we introduce new reflections on the facts and in particular on the judicial process as a type of "historical memory" and on the personal drama of those who faced death at that tragic moment. The article proposes several keys to reading this document, analyzes the depositions of a select number of accused and compares the different discursive strategies used by them in this critical situation.es_ES
