La importancia de la revisión en traductología: fundamentos teóricos y aplicación a un caso real de autorrevisión

Abstract

El presente trabajo está compuesto por la revisión de parte de la traducción al español de una obra de Pieter de Vries. La traducción original se llevó a cabo en el año 2000 y fue publicada en 2001. La revisión fue realizada por quien escribe estas líneas, por lo que se ha de considerar, específicamente, una autorrevisión. Debido a la extensión del texto (394 páginas), para este trabajo se seleccionó únicamente el primer capítulo y parte del segundo. Además, se presenta el correspondiente informe de investigación. El informe de investigación, basado en la autorrevisión, comienza con una introducción que incluye la justificación de la escogencia del texto y del tema investigado. En el primer capítulo se presentan las principales consideraciones que constituyen el fundamento teórico de la revisión como actividad traductológica con características particulares, y también se mencionan algunos rasgos propios de la autorrevisión. En el segundo capítulo se describen los parámetros de revisión de Mossop y los tipos de error de Hansen, que constituyeron la referencia metodológica para hacer la revisión. Asimismo, se ofrece un conjunto de ejemplos extraídos de la versión revisada, con el fin de ilustrar las adecuaciones introducidas. Por último, se presentan las conclusiones a las que condujo el análisis de la autorrevisión. Se pretende recalcar la importancia de la revisión y la autorrevisión como actividades vitales para mejorar la calidad de las traducciones, así como mostrar los diferentes parámetros que se pueden utilizar para llegar a contar con un producto final que satisfaga, en el mayor grado posible, las expectativas de todos los interesados. También se presentan los conceptos de “lectura-relectura” y de “intertextualidad” como motivaciones fundamentales en la realización de las adecuaciones introducidas en el texto durante el proceso de revisión.

This paper consists of the revision of part of the Spanish translation of a work by Pieter de Vries. The original translation was carried out in 2000 and published in 2001. The revision was carried out by the writer of these lines, so it must be considered, specifically, a self-revision. Due to the length of the text (394 pages), only the first chapter and part of the second chapter were selected for this work. In addition, the corresponding research report is presented. The research report, based on self-revision, begins with an introduction that includes the justification for the choice of the text and the research topic. The first chapter presents the main considerations that constitute the theoretical basis of revision as a translatological activity with particular characteristics, and also mentions some features of self-revision. The second chapter describes Mossop's revision parameters and Hansen's types of errors, which constituted the methodological reference for the revision. It also provides a set of examples taken from the revised version, in order to illustrate the adjustments introduced. Finally, the conclusions drawn from the self-revision analysis are presented. The aim is to emphasize the importance of revision and self-revision as vital activities for improving the quality of translations, as well as to show the different parameters that can be used to arrive at a final product that satisfies, to the greatest extent possible, the expectations of all stakeholders. The concepts of "reading-reading" and "intertextuality" are also presented as fundamental motivations for making adjustments to the text during the revision process.
