dc.description.abstractEn la actualidad, la sociedad se ha visto amenazada por los altos niveles de degradación ambiental experimentados en los últimos tiempos, y por el creciente agotamiento de los recursos naturales que han limitado la seguridad alimentaria en algunas regiones del país -y en algunos países del mundo- (FMI, 1996). La contaminación ambiental ha sobrepasado niveles críticos y se está revirtiendo en contra del mismo ser humano en términos de salud, disponibilidad de recursos y del disfrute que podía experimentar de la naturaleza (Brown, 1991). El replanteamiento del estilo de desarrollo requiere la implementación de acciones alternativas que conduzcan a un mejoramiento de la calidad ambiental, a una recuperación de la base de recursos naturales y, en general, a niveles de calidad de la sociedad manifiesto en mejoras de la salud, educación, seguridad, etc. Para tal efecto, se pueden desarrollar un conjunto de indicadores que permitan evaluar el comportamiento y la evolución de los recursos naturales y la calidad ambiental; por ejemplo, indicadores para monitorear la calidad del aire y del agua.es_ES
dc.description.abstractToday, society has been threatened by the high levels of environmental degradation experienced in recent times, and by the increasing depletion of natural resources that have limited food security in some regions of the country - and in some countries of the world. - (IMF, 1996). Environmental pollution has exceeded critical levels and is reversing itself against the same human being in terms of health, availability of resources and the enjoyment that he could experience from nature (Brown, 1991). Rethinking the style of development requires the implementation of alternative actions that lead to an improvement in environmental quality, to a recovery of the natural resource base and, in general, to levels of quality of society manifested in health improvements, education, security, etc. For this purpose, a set of indicators can be developed to evaluate the behavior and evolution of natural resources and environmental quality; for example, indicators to monitor air and water quality.es_ES
