Locate the Infants and Health project Environmental Assessment (ISA) in the social, environmental, economic and cultural context of the area of Talamanca. The Talamanca area has become a multicultural region, where, in addition to the Bribris and Cabécares, native inhabitants live with more than 7000 years of living in the region, immigrants of African descent, mestizos from the central valley and Nicaragua, immigrants from China and Europe, and people from the neighboring country of Panama, whose representatives are from the Ngäbe ethnic group, which constitute an important hand of work in the banana and plantain plantations of the Sixaola Valley. Understanding this context both from the eco-systemic approach to human health, as well as from the area of agro-ecological alternatives to the use of agrochemicals, is important and necessary for the Infants and Environmental Health (ISA) project for development and validation of strategies, which promote the reduction of the use of agrochemicals in the production of the banana crop, as the main scope of this participatory research, Achieving a reduction in pesticide use and exposure in communities with different banana and plantain production systems testing different strategies to reduce exposure risks, is one of the major components of the Infants and Environmental Health project (www.isa.una.ac.cr). Project that is part of the studies of the Regional Institute of Studies in Toxic Substances (IRET) of the National University.
